Impact

Global Challenge

There is a great need to generate and share knowledge about the contemporary art ecology in East Africa across disciplinary and national boundaries

We draw together visual artists, art professionals, arts organisations, funders, policy makers, academics and other stakeholders in the visual arts from East Africa. Through, workshops, mentoring, the creation and exhibition of new artworks and other events organized by our partners, Newcastle University is exploring how opportunities and career pathways can be developed for artists working in East Africa.

How we are making a difference

  • Facilitating collaborative workshops that support the development of curating, art-writing, entrepreneurial skills for art professionals
  • Helping artists build sustainable livelihoods, an international development priority
  • Building capacity in the creative industries in East Africa
