The School is home to two of the longest established research centres at the University. Our open and interdisciplinary orientation means we also have close links with key University research institutes.

Research centres

The Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) is a multi-disciplinary research centre. It has an international reputation for work on the economic and social development of cities and regions

The Policy, Ethics and Life Sciences (PEALS) research centre is an internationally recognised research centre focused on the social and ethical debates around the contemporary life sciences. It works with a wide range of academic and community-based partners, to develop rigorous and socially engaged analysis, innovative teaching, and public dialogue that informs and contributes to future practices and policies.

The Centre for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) is co-owned by the School and the schools of History, Classics and Archaeology and Modern Languages. It is an interdisciplinary research centre with an international reputation for work across the arts, humanities, social, physical and engineering sciences, focused on the Latin American and Caribbean region.
