Background
I am a classical archaeologist with an interest in the history of the discipline and in museums as a site of classical reception. I have published on a range of topics, including the impact of the first exhibition of Schliemann’s finds from Troy, exhibitions of Greek art in World War Two and how museums can better communicate ancient inscriptions to today’s audiences. I have worked in both museum and university contexts and my current work on the Shefton Archive project brings together practical and theoretical approaches to museum collections.
Current and ongoing projects:
The Shefton Archive Project - I am working on a large ongoing project, relating to the history of one of the U.K.'s largest collections of Greek and Etruscan archaeology. The project aims to uncover the complete history of the collection, and to reconstruct an intellectual biography of its founder. The project will collate and disseminate the late Professor Brian Shefton's personal archive of correspondence, slides, scholarly materials and items pertaining to the history of his collection.
