Research
As the Postdoctoral Research Associate on ‘Beyond Destruction’, a project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) through the Centre for Hidden Histories of the First World War (PI Dr Mark Jackson), I carried out a research to examine the impact of WWI on Middle Eastern communities/minorities today.
My wide-ranging research interests embrace comparative literature (including contemporary Arabic and US multi-ethnic literature); Middle Eastern Studies (including cultural heritage; ethno-religious communities); memory and identity; and representations of gender identity.
Selected research-based contributions to workshops and academic conferences:
- ‘Mobilising Memory: the case of Iraqi Christian diaspora in England’, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Newcastle University, October 2019.
- ‘The Impact of WWI on Group Identity: The Case of Modern Assyrian’, The First World War: Past, Present, Future, Edinburgh Napier University, June 2019.
- ‘The Gertrude Bell Archive: documenting the lives and cultures of communities in Syria and Iraq in the early 20th century’, in Rare Book and Special Collections Conference, Cambridge University, UK, 2018. Invited Speaker
