Wastes and Strays: The Past, Present and Future of English Urban Commons

This major interdisciplinary project brings together scholars working in Law - Professor Chris Rodgers, Architecture, History - Dr Rachel Hammersley, Archaeology and English Literature to explore the past, present and future of urban common land in England. Rachel Hammersley will be leading the 'Past' element of the project and will work with a postdoctoral research assistant to investigate the historical and archaeological records relating to four case studies: The Town Moor, Newcastle upon Tyne; Valley Gardens, Brighton; Mousehold Heath, Norwich; and Clifton Down, Bristol.
