About Us

About Us

The world’s first major research centre focused on the biology of bacterial cells.

Bacteria are by far the most abundant and diverse organisms on earth. They play critical roles the major biochemical cycles that keep our planet habitable. Some bacteria cause serious infectious diseases, whereas others are important in a wide range of industrial settings.

The Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology (CBCB) is the world’s first major research centre with a focus on bacterial cells. Our work provides scientific insights crucial for the discovery and development of new antibiotics, as well as providing solutions to industrial and environmental problems.
