Geographies of Economic Evolution

Geographies of Economic Evolution

Overview

Research in this theme is concerned with the evolution and restructuring of urban and regional economies, with a particular focus on processes of post-industrial transition. It incorporates long-standing CURDS research on innovation, foreign direct investment and labour markets, alongside engagement with contemporary debates on evolutionary economic geography, global production networks and livelihoods. Informed by a range of theoretical frameworks and employing multiple methodologies, this research is concerned with the linkages and connections between cities and regions and broader processes of economic restructuring such as globalisation and de-globalisation, technological change, knowledge-based development, climate change and new forms of employment.

  • Urban and regional adaptation and resilience
