Newcastle University is committed to supporting the development of staff and recognises that returning from long term leave for an academic can be challenging due to their particular work requirements.
The Returners' Support Programme has been designed to provide flexible, tailored support to enable academics and researchers reduce the impact of extended leave on the delivery of their activities. This will help to ensure that academics can build research momentum quickly upon their return to work, maintain career development and provide funding to help them achieve this.
The flexibility built into the programme is a key component and means that the funding can be used to additional childcare costs to attend an academic conference or perhaps to reduce the amount of time spent on admin or teaching for a period of time in order to focus on research activity.
By investing and committing to this programme, the University will reinforce the inclusion principles of the Athena SWAN charter and the Parenting and Childcare Review. It strengthens the University's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and offers greater flexibility and opportunity.
The programme is open to academic, teaching or research staff who have taken some time off work due to caring responsibilities. Further details about the programme and how to apply can be found on the links below and also from your Faculty HR Managers and Advisers.
