Safeguarding relates to the action taken to promote the welfare of children (under 18s) and vulnerable adults and protect them from harm. Safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone working at Newcastle University.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps Newcastle University make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. It replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).
The DBS is responsible for processing requests for criminal records checks (DBS checks).
