You don’t need to change any current job descriptions, but please use the new template when you update any existing jobs or create any new posts.
We’ve been reviewing the way we describe our jobs. Often this is too detailed and sometimes inconsistent and unclear which can deter applicants from applying to work with us.
In future, we want our job descriptions to be shorter, simpler and more professional. They are summaries of the key areas of responsibility - they don’t need to include everything. So, we’ve simplified the form and made it easier to complete.
The format has been tested in a number of units both in Professional Services and Faculties.
If a job needs to be graded, then we’ll need a little more information to help ensure we get the right outcome. So there is a separate Job Grading Details form (Word, 238KB) to complete and submit with the job description.
This will be for internal use only – it won’t be part of the details we post on the external recruitment website.
Guidance on completion of the template can be found here
