Research Training Programme

Faculty Research Training Programme

This is an innovative, interdisciplinary research training and researcher development programme available to full-time and part-time postgraduate research students in the Humanities and Social Sciences throughout their time studying for their research degree.

The Programme has been recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) as a sound foundation for doctoral studies, and underpins the training provisions of the ESRC-funded North East Doctoral Training Centre and the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership.

We provide detailed information for prospective PhD, research masters and PhD students, including the current Handbooks and brochure, and also all you need to know about our popular 60 credit Postgraduate Certificate in Research Training, which is open to applicants from outside the University as well as to doctoral students registered within the University.
