Project Description  

Discovery and development of carbohydrate active enzymes (CAZymes) for degradation of plant pathogenic biofilms.

  • Xylella fastidiosa and Erwinia amylovora are two agriculturally important quarantine plant pathogens that are capable of destroying a number of diverse crops.
  • Biofilm formation is crucial for pathogenesis
  • This project aims to identify and biochemically characterise enzymes able to degrade biofilms produced by Xylella fastidiosa and Erwinia amylovora.

Student will be based in the School of Natural and Environmental Science at Newcastle University

Person Specification and Eligibility Criteria

You must have, or expect to achieve, a first-class or upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant subject or international equivalent.

This award is available to UK/EU candidates only. If English is not your first language, you must have IELTS 6.5 with at least 5.5 in each component.
