Dr Alan Bagnall

Background

Dr Bagnall is a consultant interventional cardiologist at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne and Clinical Director of Research and Development for Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust. He graduated from Leeds University in 1994 with Honours in Medicine and a First Class Honours degree in Pathology. He was awarded a Welcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship in the Edinburgh Cardiovascular Research Initiative and generated several tissue-specific knockout models of the Endothelin B receptor as part of his PhD. In 2002 he became a Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology in Edinburgh and trained in interventional cardiology at St Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Dr Bagnall's current research interests are the treatment of coronary chronic total occlusions and acute coronary syndromes, focusing particularly on the role of T-lymphocytes and the influence of advanced age and frailty.
