Clinical Scientist - Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Background

Motor unit loss has been identified as a potential component of Sarcopenia (muscle loss) in the general syndrome of frailty. Current methods of motor unit assessment are invasive and painful. I am currently undertaking a NIHR BRC clinical doctoral fellowship working in the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre to develop a novel non-invasive imaging methodology using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to investigate motor unit activity in ageing.

Research

I am currently undertaking a NIHR BRC clinical doctoral fellowship working in the Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre. A Clinical Scientist trained in MRI Physics by background I am employed by the Newcastle upon Tyne NHS FT - Regional Medical Physics department. I am interested in the development of novel MR imaging protocols to aid & transform the investigation of different diseases. Working closely with clinical colleagues in Neurophysiology & Gerontology we aim to develop a novel non-invasive imaging methodology, using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to investigate motor unit activity in ageing.
