Beth Bareham

Postgraduate Research Student

Background

I am a doctoral fellow funded by the National Institute for Health Research School for Primary Care Research (SPCR), working towards my PhD in Public Health with Newcastle University Institute of Health and Society. I was drawn to Newcastle due to expertise in the areas of ageing and alcohol use. I am fortunate enough to be supervised by Professor Barbara Hanratty and Professor Eileen Kaner, who lead research in these areas. My project uses qualitative methods to explore why older adults use alcohol, and how older people and their health and social care workers make decisions and recommendations around their drinking. With a background in health psychology, my research interests include ageing, primary care and health services, and risk behaviours and perceptions. I am also co-convenor for MedSoc North East and the Newcastle University trainee representative within the SPCR. Within these roles, I put together events to bring researchers together and provide dissemination, networking and training opportunities.
