Choosing Newcastle

The main reason I chose to study in Newcastle University is because it is among the top university which offer specialised course in process control. Besides that Newcastle has been ranked as one of the most affordable city to live in, also I prefer university which locate right at the city centre which is really convenient for students.

Teaching quality

The teaching quality on my course is amazing. I really like the open door policy where I could just meet up with my lecturer and supervisor when I have any problems with my studies. The recap system is also one of my favourite. It really helps a lot when I am doing my revision, ensuring that I do not miss out any important points.

Favourite module

I favourite module is the Safety and Environmental modules. My lecturer will always show us films about the case study on the topic that we discussed in the lecture. It creates awareness on how important our role is in the industry. The lecturer brings in the latest issue about the industry and world, encourage us to think critically and suggest possible route on handling the issue. I think it really prepares me well for my future career.

Recommending Newcastle

Most university offer similar modules, however finding the right place where you want to be is the most important. Newcastle is a place where offer a balance between work and social. I certainly do not regret coming to Newcastle, I could even say I fall in love with the city. Visit and experience the university and the city before making your decision.

I enjoy the balance between cultural and social in the city. The city has a large range of café offering food from all around the world; it’s never a time I could not find a suitable restaurant for food. The living expenses is also not as high as other city such as Manchester, I could always find a good bargain in the historic Grainger market. There are always theatre shows, concert and festival happening throughout the year. No matter what is your interest, Newcastle always has something to offer.

Clubs and societies

I involved mostly on the volunteering activities through SCAN. It is a very good platform which connects the students and the community. From fund raising to conservation of the environment, SCAN always has lots of activities going on. I have volunteered for Juice Festival for two consecutive years and also helped out in the university farm.

Accommodation

I live in Sunderland, which is only 35 minutes away by metro. It is really easy to sort out the accommodation here. There are housing agents nearby the university which offer a range of choice to students. It all depends which area the students prefer to live and how much is their budget.

Funding your studies

There are a lot of restaurants in the city centre offering cheap lunch packages; there are also choices of getting a baguette for only 99 pence. Some buildings in the university provides microwaves, hence students could bring their own lunch and heat up the food. It is always wise to plan the monthly expenses as it could be hard to manage our own finance when the city has so much to offer. The university also offer part time jobs, it is a great opportunity as they gives higher pay compared to the employer outside, it could also fit around our own timetable.

Career aspirations

I plan to working in the industry after I graduate. I am looking forward to join any consumer product company as I am interested in the production line. Newcastle University has provided me the quality education. Through my studies and work with the university, I have gain valuable skills such as team working, interacting skills, leadership skills and also experience in different field.
