Creation of a North East England South Asia Mental Health Alliance - NEESAMA

Drs Aditya Sharma and Jacqui Rodgers have been awarded funds from the British Council and Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS to create an innovative mental health partnership

Congratulations to Dr Aditya Sharma Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Child and Adolescent psychiatry, Dr Jacqui Rodgers, Senior Lecturer, Clinical Psychology and Hamish McAllister-Williams Professor of Affective Disorders. They have been awarded funding from the British Council and the Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS trust to establish a North East England South Asia Mental Health Alliance - NEESAMA. The partnership has already set clear objectives, including: identifying research priorities, identifying training needs, and development of a service provision in South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran).

The first NEESAMA meeting is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu this November and will include delegates from North East England and South Asia.
