NIHR mental health translational research collaboration

Newcastle mental health clinicians will be part of a national group to tackle mental health challenges

The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) the research section of the NHS is establishing a group of the UK's top mental health researchers and clinicians, industrial partners and charities to tackle the mental health challenges facing the UK public. In the UK it is now estimated that one in four people experience a mental health problem throughout their life. The collaboration will focus on scientific research initially into treatment resistant depression and how to identify individuals at risk of developing mental health problems.

The network will be underpinned by the NIHR's Biomedical Research Centres, and the Newcastle lead will be Professor Hamish McAllister-Williams.
