Deputy Institute Manager



To provide a comprehensive professional support service to the Institute Manager and Institute Director in order to meet the strategic and operational objectives of the Institute, Faculty and University and to assure the future sustainability of the Institute.  To assist the Institute Manger in developing and driving the strategy of the Institute. To take significant responsibility for the HR functions of the Institute and interface with research functions.

  • To work with the Institute Management Team in developing and implementing strategic and operational plans and ensuring a culture of continuous improvement is embedded in the Institute’s business delivery.
  • To implement administrative support structures.
  • To drive HR policy and practice and to work closely with the Institute Manager in designing and implementing other policies to support the Institute.

  • To manage the recruitment and selection process for support, research and academic staff.
  • Forward plan employment contracts for all research and support staff so as to maintain a highly trained workforce.
  • To manage processes for the application of bridging, maternity and redundancy funds to the Faculty.
  • To manage the PDR system, including the Institute database and SAP records, for all staff in the Institute.
  • Working with the Institute Manager in the preparation of budgets and forecasts and ensuring the Institute has adequate cost recovery mechanisms in place.
  • Deputising for Institute Manager when necessary
