Staff Profile

Dr Dave Houghton

Research Associate

Background

I have a specialist interest in how lifestyle influences lifelong health and wellbeing, and chronic disease, particularly diabetes, liver disease, cardiovascular disease and mitochondrial disorders. I currently work on human clinical trials and animal models of disease and ageing focussing on skeletal muscle, liver health, body composition, metabolic control, cardiac and autonomic functiom, mitochondrial function and nutritional status. I have previously conducted research into the gastrointestinal tract and how we can target this to improve the efficacy of lifestyle interventions, specifically targeting the gut microbiome. This is a passion of mine and I believe that in the future this will lay the foundations for a personalised medicine.
