Biographical Sketch

Elaine Perry is a neuroscientist who has pursued a range of research activities focused on disorders of the human brain, pathological mechanisms and potential therapies.
Areas of research include dementia (Alzheimer’s, Lewy body and Vascular types), Parkinson’s disease, ageing , schizophrenia, depression and autism.

Much of this research has focused on the role of the cholinergic system in pathogenesis and symptomatology, employing invaluable and ethically controlled human brain bank tissue. Pre and post synaptic cholinergic markers (including nicotinic and muscarinic receptors) assessable in autopsy material have been identified as being involved in symptoms such as cognitive dysfunction, hallucinations
