I have a wide range of knowledge and expertise in the research support function having worked in research administration since 2004.  I was previously a Research Support Co-ordinator in the School of Clinical Medical Sciences (Child Health) for 3 years and then the Institute of Cellular Medicine for over 7 years.  I have been in the Institute of Neuroscience since May 2015.

I manage the Institute's research support function covering all pre-award activity.  The main roles within my remit are below:

Provide management level support on costing and pricing of research and consultancy proposals and lead those bids that are of strategic importance to the Faculty

Provide a co-ordinated and efficient research support service across the Faculty ensuring each Institute has the necessary research support staff cover to meet their needs

Organise training and development for the Faculty Research Officers

Develop and maintain the research support content of the Faculty's website and intranet

Set-up and management of research grants in liaison with Contract Financial Management and Principal Investigators

A point of contact for queries regarding budgets and financial management of RES accounts

Offer a broad range of advice and support regarding research activities and protocol within the Institute

Provide statistical information on research to inform future strategy

Identify and disseminate appropriate external funding opportunities

Management of the Institute’s “Perfect your Pitch” scheme

Promote research collaboration within and outside of the Institute

Represent the research support function at Institute and Faculty meetings related to research activity and strategy
