INTO Newcastle support

Whenever you want to talk to someone you can come to us. Our staff at the INTO Newcastle welcome desk are on hand to help with any issues you may have, study related or not.

We can offer you:

  • an orientation programme on student life in Newcastle to help you settle in
  • 24-hour emergency telephone number
  • an airport pick-up service to welcome you
  • language advisers who can talk to you in your own language
  • residential assistants to help with any problems in the residences
  • Visa and immigration workshops
  • an active social programme to help you make new friends
  • if you have a disability you'll receive dedicated support

Your attendance

It's important that you attend your classes. Missing classes could impact on your progress and it could affect your student visa too. We'll track your attendance and if there's an issue we'll work with you to get you back into class as soon as possible.

Under 18s

Studying overseas is a big step for anyone and if you're under 18 we can offer you an extra level of support. We'll meet you at the airport and check in on you every day at your student residence. We've got an under 18 policy that you might find useful.

Improving your English

Worried about how you'll cope with studying in a different language? Don't worry, we're here to help. We have courses and support services to help you to improve your language skills. You can even access some of them before you arrive in the UK.

INTO Get Ready for English

This free tutored online course is available before you step on a plane. If your study offer has an English language requirement then you'll be invited to enrol. You can take part in the whole course, or choose the activities that will benefit you most. The course gives you:

  • expert, personalised feedback from our UK-based tutors
  • a better understanding of your current level in listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • the flexibility to study in your own time

This is INTO Newcastle's free online tutoring module that you can study when you arrive. You can study this module for up to seven hours per week, which includes two live classes. Studying online means that you have the flexibility to study when you want, with your online tutor just a keystroke away.

Newcastle University support

Newcastle University has a range of services to support you in your studies:

  • Language Resource Centre with free learning facilities in over 50 languages and the opportunity to partner with a UK student as part of their Tandem Learning Scheme 
  • Library services available 24 hours a day
  • Group and individual study spaces
  • E-learning facilities and IT support

In-sessional English

When you have progressed onto your degree, we will continue to support you in your studies. You can continue to develop your English language via our In-sessional English team. You can attend up to 8 hours of support classes for free.

Everyone needs a little extra help from time to time. Our Student Services website gives all the information and support you'll need during your time with us. Once you're a registered student here, you can access support on a range of issues such as:
