Listowner commands

Some commands are only available to listowners. Whilst most list administration we would expect to be done via the web interface, in a lot of cases it may be preferable to use an e-mail interface (especially in cases where access to the web may be limited).

These commands are :

ADD listname user@host firstname name

Adds a member to a list in a similar way to the SUBSCRIBE command. List owners can avoid user notification by prefixing this command with the QUIET command (ie. QUIET ADD ...).

After adding a member, you will be sent back an e-mail asking you to authorise the subscription of the member (to which you reply using the AUTH command). This is a security measure intended to prevent a forged listowner address being used to indiscriminately subscribe members without authorisation.

NOTE: this will add a member to a list automatically - they will be added without their confirmation. If you wish members to confirm their membership, then you need to send an INVITE command instead of ADD. That way, members will receive an e-mail asking them to subscribe.

DELETE listname user@host

Deletes a member from a list. As with the ADD command, you will be sent back an e-mail asking you to authorise the deletion of the member from the list - a security measure intended to prevent forging of listowner addresses to indiscriminately remove members from lists. Again, as with ADD you can prefix this with QUIET to prevent notification being sent to the removed member(s).

REMIND listname

This command is used by the listowner to send out an individual reminder message to each member of the list. The text of the message can be modified by editing a template available using the web interface.

REMIND *

This is a special case of the REMIND command, and is only available to the listmaster. It is used to send each member of all lists on the server a single message with a summary of his/her subscriptions.

As well as these above commands, listowners, of course also have the right to send any of the range of user commands. Some of these are quite useful for the listowner, in particular, the REVIEW command, the STATS command, and the INVITE command.

If a list is a moderated list, and there are no moderators explicitly defined, then the listowner is also, by default, a list moderator, and can issue the range of moderator commands too.
