How much space is available in my Home Folder?

When managing your files and folders in your Home Folder it is useful to know how much space you have available.

There are different ways to do this depending on which version of Windows you are using.

Windows Vista and Windows 7

In Windows Vista and Windows 7 it is easy to check your available space as it appears in the same way available space is shown on other devices such as local hard disks and USB sticks.

  1. Click on the 'Start' icon then select 'Computer' from the menu. This will open a windows explorer window. (You will notice that the location bar will display your Computer name).
  2. You will see a list of the drives connected to your computer.
  3. Look for the drive called 'Documents (H:)' Your quota will be displayed below this label.
  4. In this example you can see that this user has 1.05GB available of their 2GB Quota.

Windows XP
  1. Click on the 'Start' icon then select 'My Computer' from the menu.
  2. You will see a list of the drives connected to your computer.
  3. Look for the drive called 'username' on 'towerx\homexx' where username is your username and towerx\homexx is the path to your Home Folder.

  4. Double click on the icon to open your home folder.
  5. From the menu select 'Edit > Select All'.  This will highlight all of your files and folders.
  6. Right click on any of the highlighted folders or files and select 'Properties'
  7. A total of your usage will be displayed. You can then subtract this amount from your quota which can be found on the Home Folder Page. (Note: 1024MB = 1GB)
