Issues with University IT Systems

As you may be aware, over the last few days Newcastle University has suffered a cyber incident which is affecting a number of our IT systems.

We would like to reassure you that we take the security of our systems extremely seriously and we were able to respond quickly to this incident.

This is now the subject of a Police investigation and our team in NUIT is working extremely hard with a number of agencies to address the issue.

The investigation is still at an early stage, but as a key partner of the university we wanted to write to you directly to make you aware of the situation as a number of our IT services may need to be taken offline for a period of time as part of our recovery plan over the next few days.

This means that some of the services you would normally access may not be available and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

It is likely to take us at least two weeks, and maybe more, to address the problem but we will update you in due course if there is any change.
