Free Microsoft Software for "STEM Educators"

Microsoft makes its software freely available to Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine (STEM) "Educators" via the "Imagine Premium" program.  Staff who teach on STEM courses or who setup computing labs for STEM students can download the software and install it on their personal PC or Laptop.  

The Imagine Premium offer includes over 170 packages, the following downloads are popular:

  • Windows Server
  • Windows Client
  • Project
  • Visio
  • Visual Studio
  • SQL Server

Note: This software program was previously known as Microsoft Dreamspark.  

To access the offer visit the "Imagine Premium" section under the  "Staff" tab on the site.  

Staff are identified as qualifying for  the "Imagine Premium" offer if listed in the Modules Outline Forms System (MOFS) as contributing to modules ran from the SAGE or Medical Faculties, additionally computing officers are granted access.   

Imagine Usage Guidelines:

  • The software agreement is between Microsoft and the user. It is not University-owned software.
  • Ensure that you read and understand the system requirements before installing any Microsoft products.
  • You may use the software for non-commercial purposes including instructional use, research and/or design, development and testing of projects for class assignments or personal projects. You may not use the software for any for-profit software development.
  • When you are no longer a registered student/member of staff in a department that is a member of Imagine Premium, you may no longer receive updates for your personal use computer. However, you may continue to use previously installed software on your computer, provided you continue to follow the program guidelines.
  • If you violate the terms of the licence agreement and end-user licence agreement (EULA), the Imagine Program Administrator will demand confirmation of removal of the program software on your personal use computer.
  • As defined by Microsoft's terms of use, not all software is available to all users.
