Exploring Information Sharing in Schools and Further Education

This scoping project was commissioned by Newcastle University’s Information Systems Service to explore the current context of information sharing in and between schools and other agencies. The study responds to a number of contemporary policy imperatives that are fundamental issues in the agenda surrounding Every Child Matters.

The main purpose of the study was to investigate the issues surrounding shared/common information services and feasibility for future federation of ID management (IDM) in the education context. The intention was to build a detailed picture of the current situation by carrying out case studies in a number of schools and F.E colleges from a selection of local authority areas in the North East region. By doing this the aim is to inform the regional discussion over how best to respond to current and future policies relating to shared services and information management in the education sector.
