Academic Staff: Prepare Your Semester Two Reading Lists

Academic Staff: Prepare Your Semester Two Reading Lists

26 November 2020

The Library's reading lists team is now preparing for Semester Two. It is time for you as module leaders to ensure that we have the most up-to-date lists available, so that we can ensure resources are ready for students to access via Canvas.

Academic staff can now access the reading list system directly via Canvas and can add/remove items from their own lists. Instructions can be found on our website along with general guidance and support.

When preparing your lists:

  • consider including e-resources that we already subscribe to, over brand-new texts that may not be available under an institutional e-book licence. You can check availability via Library Search by limiting your results to ‘Full Text Online’.
  • allow up to six weeks for items not already in stock to be ordered and made available for students. Where an e-book is available, this may take less time. We are still prioritising e-books and will only buy print copies if an e-book is not available.
  • email us at the earliest opportunity if there are essential book(s) you require for your students that we do not have as an e-book, so that we can check if the e-book can be bought under a suitable institutional licence.
  • consider if alternative titles or an extract scanned under the CLA licence would be suitable where an item is not available electronically.
  • be sure to make any scan requests well in advance by email or by tagging the item with ‘CLA scan required’ in the reading list system. Due to the high demand for CLA scans we are prioritising essential readings.

If you would like Library staff to process your list, please complete our online submission form or email your list to us.
