This week's opening hours and services

In response to rapidly changing circumstances regarding COVID-19 we are adjusting opening hours and service delivery plans.

For vacation week beginning 4th January, our opening hours and service delivery will be as follows:

  • Marjorie Robinson Library Rooms - Monday to Friday - 08.30-22.00, Saturday and Sunday (9th and 10th January) 08.30-18.00 - for bookable study spaces only.
  • Philip Robinson Library - Monday to Friday 10.00-18.00 – currently for Click and Collect only.
  • Walton Library
    • Monday and Tuesday 10.00-17.00 – for Click and Collect only.
    • Wednesday to Friday 08.30-17.00 - for Click and Collect and bookable study spaces.

Please keep checking our webpages for updates, as these arrangements are likely to change. We are keeping the situation under constant review, adapting our provision in response to students’ return to campus, staffing availability, and in line with any new guidance from the Government or University. As has been the case from the outset, the safety of staff and users is of paramount concern.

Study spaces in the Library

We are operating a pre-booked, individual booking system and there are some things to remember when using the Library:

  • Study space bookings are available to all Newcastle University staff and students.
  • Entry to the Library is by advanced booking only. Please don’t visit unless you have pre-booked a study space. You will be required to show your booking email on entry.
  • There are a range of study spaces available including study rooms, desks with PCs, individual desks, and study booths all of which are for individual use only. You must keep to your pre-booked seat.
  • Be sure to scan into your pre-booked space using the QR code on the desk. If you don’t check-in, your study space will be released back into the booking system and may be double booked.
  • Help us provide a safe and comfortable environment for all by using the materials provided to clean your study space when you arrive and leave, and by disposing of any litter in the bins provided.

Study spaces elsewhere on Campus

Use the study space finder or Find a PC within the University app to read more about study spaces open outside of the Library. This includes the Lindisfarne room in the Hadrian Building (show map), open Monday to Friday 08.30 - 22.00 (walk-in access via student smart card).

Borrowing and returning

Our Click and Collect service allows you to request books from the shelves, with pick up times morning, afternoon and evening so you can book a slot whenever is convenient for you. Reference only items can be requested and will be made available for you to look at when you book a study space.

If you’ve borrowed books and finished with them, you can return them through the book drop at the Philip Robinson Library or Walton Library, or to the self-return kiosks if you’ve booked a space. If someone else has requested an item you have on loan, please return it as soon as you can, or let us know via Library Help if you are having problems.
