Natural Magick by John Baptista Porta - May 2009

(London: Printed for Thomas Young and Samuel Speed, 1658)
Pybus Collection: Pyb. R.iii.13

Giambattista della Porta (1535-1615) was an Italian physicist and playwright. Natural Magick is his best-known work and includes the first articulate description of a camera obscura and the use of concave and convex lenses for viewing near and far objects. Indeed, he made optical instruments for Luigi, Cardinal d'Este while in his service in Venice.
