Funding Opportunities for Postgraduate Study in Linguistics

PhD Studentships available.

Funding is available through the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Partnership (NBDTP) and the ESRC funded Northern Ireleand North East Doctoral Training Partnership (NINEDTP).

Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership (NBDTP)

Newcastle University offers three-year PhD studentships in linguistics from October 2018 as part of the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership.

Studentships include:

  • a fee waiver and a maintenance grant
  • access to a research training grant to fund the costs of study abroad
  • conference attendance or fieldwork
  • support to incorporate short-term placements

The three-year duration assumes full-time study. With part-time study, the duration can be spread pro-rata (usually six years).

The deadline for applications is 17.00, Wednesday 11 January 2017

There is no quota for studentships in linguistics; applicants compete against each other across the whole range of arts and humanities.

ESRC Doctoral Studentships in Linguistics and Language Sciences

Newcastle University is one of seven University partners who make up the new North East and Northern Ireland Doctoral Training Partnership (NINEDTP).

Studentships in Linguistics and Language Sciences are available in a range of areas.

The deadline for applications is 17.00, Monday 16 January 2017.
