Language Variation & Change

Language Variation and Change

This group is aimed at both staff and postgraduate sociolinguists, corpus linguists and historical linguists who are interested in linguistic variability and language change.

The group aims to provide a platform for the discussion of methodological, conceptual and practical issues related to the study of language variation and how this relates to language change. It also provides a forum for members to present ongoing research, discuss research papers, host guest speakers and receive training in using certain linguistic software.

Our meetings are informal and participant-driven. Members are encouraged to suggest topics and act as chair for future sessions. Meetings are once per month during term time.

Anybody with an interest in language variation and change is welcome to attend any of our monthly sessions.
