What is International Women’s Day?
Empowerment – Celebration – Unity – Reflection
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8th March in more than 100 countries, to celebrate the social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women in history and to empower women today. Women are provided with a platform to voice their opinions on achieving gender equality and to protect women’s rights in society. For some people, it can be an emotional day, full of protest and sharing their experience and for others it is a day of celebration and unity.
Get involved
The 2019 theme for International Women’s Day is #BalanceforBetter – this is a campaign which is held all year long and symbolises the importance of a gender-balanced world. To get involved start by sharing this news on social media and motivate others to take part in building a gender-balanced world, and don’t forget to take action by joining the #March4Women movement.
To get more involved on campus, join the Women in Business and Finance Society. This is a close-knit community where women are trying to spread awareness of diversity and gender-equity issues in the financial sector. If you feel you have strong opinions on these issues or would like to simply help empower women – this could be a meaningful way to get involved!
Upcoming Events in March
