Newcastle University London

Tour of markets around the campus

Our student Jagoda takes you on a visual journey of the many markets you can find around our campus

Newcastle University London campus is located in the heart of business London, surrounded by both offices of big companies and little local shops, restaurants and markets. Students therefore can profit from a rare chance to be close to both industry and entertainment. Following markets are a very short distance from the campus, allowing students to grab an affordable, yet high quality lunch in-between lectures. In this photo-blog I will take you on a tour of the local markets.

Spitalfields Market

This market is just a 5-minute walk from the campus and, you can find everything there. It boasts amazing selection of food stalls, vintage fashion and boutique stores.

It is a great spot for a lunch in-between lectures or a place to dine with friends in the evening.

If you are looking for a gift for family or friends this is also a good place to go as they offer a whole variety of hand-made goods.

Brick Lane

Brick Lane is in the heart of Shoreditch – a buzzing area alive with fashionable shops and creative people. Just a 7-minute walk from the campus.

Vintage stores are plentiful on Brick Lane.

Colourful quirky cafes are a sure sign that you are in the midst of hipster London.

Shoreditch area of London has the biggest concentration of quality street art in the world. During Freshers’ Week you will have an opportunity to attend street art tour around the area.

Petticoat Lane Market

An amazing spot to get some cheap street grub during lunch break. Located just 4 minutes’ walk from the campus, Petticoat Lane offers cuisine from all round the world including Jamaican, Ethiopian, Thai, Indian and Turkish.

They also offer some cheap fashion which is in contrast to the more pricey vintage items on a nearby Brick Lane.

Along the three markets presented in this blog, there are many independent and chain restaurants, coffee shops and bars around the campus, so plenty to discover!
