Module and Stage Evaluation

Module and stage evaluations are used to gather student opinion. These evaluations are gathered internally though EvaSys using online surveys. EvaSys Logo

Module Evaluation

Each module should be evaluated every time it is delivered using the University's module evaluation system EvaSys. Year long modules can be evaluated either in Semester 1 or Semester 2. Module evaluations are conducted to ensure that the University has a consistent approach to module evaluation.

Further information on module evaluations, including questions sets, is covered in the Policy on Surveying and Responding to Student Opinion and the Procedure for Implementing Student Opinion Surveys

For user guides and tutorial videos as well as FAQs please see our resources section.

Stage Evaluation

It is compulsory for schools to carry out stage evaluations on all their undergraduate programmes, excluding final year students whose feedback will be captured by the National Student survey (NSS).

Eligible students include all full-time and part-time UK, EU, and international UG students, except intercalating and final stage students, at all learning locations (e.g., Newcastle, Malaysia, Singapore, and London), including distance learners and study abroad and exchange students.

Setting up module and stage evaluations

Academic Units are responsible for setting up module and stage evaluations, but are given free rein to decide when to run the surveys and for how long.

The setup consists of a two-stage system:

  1. Information for the evaluations are generated in the Module Evaluation data Generator (MEG)
  2. The online survey is created in EvaSys

Please consult the detailed resources which support users of MEG and EvaSys. These include user guides, helpful hints, FAQs and examples of good practice.
