Newcastle Research Software Engineering Meetup

We invite you to join us at the first meetup for research software engineers at Newcastle University.

Date/Time: Monday 21 May, 12:00 - 14:00

Venue: Urban Sciences Building, Room 2.002

Software development has become an integral part of university research with many research groups now developing software to answer complex research questions.

As our ability to solve problems in software increases so does our desire to share the software.

This brings in new issues of code reliability, usable interfaces and maintaining code for long periods of time.

Many of those who work on such pieces of code are working in isolation around the university often without the opportunity to meet with others to discuss new ideas and share best practices.

The Newcastle Research Software Engineering Meetup aims to address this by providing a forum in which developers can meet, over a light lunch, to:

  • share ideas
  • make contacts with people performing similar roles
  • build support

This will be the first of a series of meetups aimed at fostering a community within the university. Future sessions will be shaped by what attendees want and need.

We're especially interested in reaching software developers in other schools and faculties who may not get the chance to meet other developers and swap ideas and experience.
