Cypriot students visit the School!

Once again, the School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics hosted a visit from prospective students at The Grammar School Nicosia, Cyprus.

We continue to work closely with High Schools in Greece and Cyprus. Lee Fawcett, on the School's Outreach Committee, organised a residential Summer School for Year 13 students at the Grammar School, in Nicosia. The students attended mini lectures on interesting topics in Statistics and Pure and Applied Mathematics. They took part in interactive campus and city tours, plus broomstick training at Alnwick Castle!

On the importance of the outreach work carried out, Lee said "Outreach of this kind is important to make overseas students aware of the maths, stats and physics programmes available at Newcastle - students don’t have to go to the big cities of London or Manchester to get a great degree from a world class Russell Group institution!

"We do this sort of work to put Newcastle on the map. Once they’ve visited, the Cypriot students seem to really appreciate that Newcastle is a small, friendly city with fantastic amenities and a world-leading university."
