PhD student Laura Wadkin wins prize at TakeAIM competition

Established in 2011, the Smith Institute’s annual TakeAIM competition is an opportunity for university students to showcase their work on the industrial stage. TakeAIM’s goal is to highlight the crucial role mathematics plays in solving real-world problems while rewarding the academic exploration of future innovators who undertake pioneering research.

Applied mathematics PhD student Laura Wadkin received 2nd Prize in the competition for her research 'Using Mathematics to Optimise Stem Cell Experiments'. Laura received the award last week at a ceremony at Imperial College London and was awarded a £200 prize. Laura works with Dr Sirio Orozco-Fuentes, Dr Nicholas Parker and Prof Anvar Shukurov on mathematical models of stem cell colony formation.
