Background

I worked as a veterinary surgeon in mixed, mainly farm practice for many years.

Looking for a new challenge I completed a Masters degree online in food safety management, which led me to developing science-related online courses, originally for Manchester Metropolitan and UCLan universities.

I have worked at Newcastle University since 2010. I develop online courses for the Faculty of Medical Sciences Graduate School as well as online resources for blended learning for undergraduates in the FMS covering many different topic areas, in particular ageing.

I also provide training for staff in online pedagogy and the use of technology for teaching online within the FMS.

Research

I am currently undertaking a PhD by publication, researching development of identity in online masters students and teaching staff.

Teaching

Programme lead in Newcastle for CIMA MRes

Module leader for CHS8006 Ageing and Health (e-learning) and CHS8016 Biology of Ageing (e-learning).

Teaching (assessment) on CHS8007 Clinical Research with Older People and CHS8003 Prescribing for Older People

Occasional sessions for staff development for online learning and teaching.
