Medicine 20 years ahead: where we are winning, where we are not (Jacobson Lecture)

Both clinical research and policy have to be forward looking. Research planned now is unlikely to have an impact within 15 years. This lecture will consider three broad drivers of change: current major trends in health; demographic change; the impact of new areas of science.

Speaker biography

Professor Whitty is Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department of Health with overall strategic responsibility for the National Institute for Health Research. He is Professor of Public and International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and Consultant Physician at University College London Hospitals and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases. As a clinician and researcher, he has worked in Africa and Asia, as well as the UK.
