I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology from the University of Glasgow in 1997. I continued my studies at the University of Manchester where I completed my PhD, also in Microbiology, in 2001. Between 2001 and 2005 I worked in a number of post-doctoral research posts and since 2005 I have worked for Newcastle University in the Faculty of Medical Sciences both as a researcher and teacher.
I was Dean of Academic Affairs at NUMed from February 2014 to August 2017 where my main role was the academic governance of the NUMed MBBS programme. Since returning to the UK my main role has been leading on the implementation of Essentials of Medical Practice (EOMP) - the new Year 1 and 2 MBBS curriculum. I am also leading on the implementation of the MBBS academic mentor scheme, I am the School of Medical Education Director of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (DELT), MBBS tutor for Intercalation and an external examiner for the MBBS programme at the University of Glasgow.
In September 2018 I became the Lead for Admissions and Recruitment for the MBBS programme.
