Study Abroad and Exchanges

Language Requirements

Language Requirements

The requirement to speak another language depends on where you plan to study.

If you study in the host country’s language, it is expected that you have a satisfactory knowledge of the language. Some of our partner institutions, particularly those in Northern Europe, offer a number of their courses in English, so fluency in a language is not always necessary. It will very much depend on where you choose to study.

Improving your language skills

The Language Resource Centre at Newcastle University can help you with your language skills. You can get support for both improving your existing language skills or learning a new language.

Many of our partner universities who offer their courses in English, also offer beginners classes in their native language. We encourage you to sign up for one of these during your exchange to help develop your linguistic skills.
