Teaching Rationale And Relationship

Induction: As an introduction to the Law School and operating in conjunction with the university-level induction, there will be one present-in-person induction lecture which is used to reintegrate students into the Law School, refreshing students on policies and processes and introducing the structure of the year.

Employability and engagement: There will be one two-hour-long employability and engagement large group session that will both develop skills relevant to the Graduate Framework for Skills, as well as educate students about the range of legal and non-legal career options available to them upon successful completion of their degree.

Understanding the marking criteria: There will one two-hour-long session that will take place later in semester one, in which the students will think back to their studies at Stage One, and what was expected of them, before engaging in activities concerning the increased expectations and requirements of assessment at Stage Two, which takes place at FHEQ level 6.

Mooting activities: As a means of familiarising students with law-specific skills in order to aid their understanding and support the substantive module content delivered, there will be two two-hour-long mooting training sessions, in which students gain experience in applying legal knowledge to real-world problems through experiential learning. These activities feed both into a better understanding of the law, as well as contributing to the development of skills considered important as part of the Graduate Skills framework.

Substantive module content: Several modules at Stage Two will be running workshops directly applicable to their module content – these are LAW2160 Criminal, which will have two two-hour-long sessions; LAW2163 Equity, which will have two two-hour-long sessions; and LAW2161 Tort, which will have one two-hour-long session. In total, there will be ten hours of this content.
