The aim of this module is to provide students with knowledge of the range of renewable energy technologies that are currently available.

Special attention given to renewable resources available in Singapore and the development of renewable energy technologies in Singapore.

Outline Of Syllabus

Solar photovoltaic and Solar Thermal Energy.
Wind Energy and Wind turbine design.
Biomass resources for energy generation.
Biomass energy generation technologies: biomass heat, gasification, anaerobic digestion.
Biofuel technologies, waste to energy development.
Biomass Conversion to Chemicals.
Tidal Energy.

Lectures introduce basic knowledge and techniques.
The seminars allow students to discuss/debate issues, reinforcing ideas and acquired knowledge as well as develop communications skills.
The essay assignment plus presentation develop ability to research a topic and to present the results in written form as well as orally.
