- Offered for Year: 2018/19
- Module Leader(s): Dr Eugene Wong
- Owning School: Engineering
- Teaching Location: Singapore
Semesters
Semester 2 Credit Value: | 30 |
ECTS Credits: | 15.0 |
Aims
An extended piece of work on some topic set by the supervisor, designed to give the student scope for developing his/her capabilities as an engineer. The topics will vary widely, and may contain components of design, materials, electronics, engineering science, mathematical modelling, industrial management etc.
Outline Of Syllabus
A study of one aspect of engineering, which may involve design, analysis, computing or experimental studies.
This will require risk assessment, project planning and time management, use of information resources, maintaining a complete and contemporaneous logbook, oral presentation, poster presentation and production of a technical report to professional engineering standards.
Teaching Methods
Please note that module leaders are reviewing the module teaching and assessment methods for Semester 2 modules, in light of the Covid-19 restrictions. There may also be a few further changes to Semester 1 modules. Assessment Rationale And Relationship
Maintaining a complete and contemporaneous logbook is important in terms of issues like quality assurance and product liability, intellectual property priority, etc.
The formal technical report (of restricted length) is a key means of communication in the engineering profession.
Oral Presentation to a restricted timescale, followed by questions and answers, is a key means of communication in engineering industry. With an industrial project this may be carried out within the company to company personnel.
The poster tests the ability of the student to summarise their contribution succinctly but with the support of visual graphics and in a way that conveys that message to a wider audience.
