NCL in Action: Launch Day

Saturday 11 March 2023

Age against the machine: Ageing better together

On Saturday 11 March 2023, colleagues, alumni and students were invited to join us to hear from two Newcastle University experts who are challenging preconceptions about ageing in their latest research as part of this year's NCL in Action launch programme.

Professor Dame Louise Robinson (Regius Professor of Ageing) and Professor Karen Ross (Professor of Gender and Media) delivered keynote lectures on their research, aiming to break taboos around ageing and health and ensure a future where we can all age better.

Can you reduce your risk of developing dementia?

Explore with Professor Dame Louise Robinson - Regius Professor of Ageing, the increasing research that shows how dementia can be prevented through taking steps to live a healthier lifestyle. Although there’s no known cure, evidence from large population studies show that taking a ‘healthy hearts and healthy minds’ approach earlier in life can delay the onset of dementia.

Blood, bone, crone: the menopause experience from the inside out

During this event, Professor Karen Ross discusses the menopause through the shared experience of others to provide a better understanding of this often taboo subject.
