National Poetry Day: NCLA and Northumbria Police Project Pamphlet Launch
Date/Time: 28 September 2017 19.15
Venue: Room G.05, Percy Building, Newcastle University
This creative project between Northumbria Police and NCLA began in 2015 when Christy Ducker became poet-in-residence at the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Following Christy’s residency, poets Kris Johnson and Peter Hebden and photographer Phyllis Christopher have been working with police-in training to produce a new pamphlet of poems and photography. Their work focuses on the theme of transformation while considering the changing nature of crime and policing, the process of becoming a police officer, and public perception of the police. Do come along and celebrate the launch of this new pamphlet.
Peter Hebden is a writer and digital developer. His most recent work was on the Steps in Time poetry app, available for iOS and Android.
Kris Johnson is a poet and early-career researcher. Her poems have been published in anthologies and journals including Hallelujah for 50ft Women (Bloodaxe), Ambit, Poetry London and The Rialto.
Phyllis Christopher is a photojournalist whose work has illustrated magazine stories and book covers.
