Bloodaxe Books and NCLA present: Brenda Shaughnessy reading and in conversation with Neil Astley

NCLA are proud to host Brenda Shaughnessy on her UK tour, in conversation with her publisher, Neil Astley at Bloodaxe Books. Shaughnessy’s work has been described as giving ‘a site of wild imaginative engagement with the most profound facets of being human: the utter vulnerability of embodiment, and the full range of feelings that come with living up close with that vulnerability.' (Yale Review).
Brenda Shaughnessy is an Okinawan-Irish American poet with five full-length collections including The Octopus Museum (Knopf, 2019), a New York Times Notable Book, and Our Andromeda (Copper Canyon, 2012), a finalist for the Griffin International Prize, the PEN/Open Book Award, and the Kingsley Tufts Prize. Her first UK publication Liquid Flesh: New and Selected Poems is published by Bloodaxe in October 2022 and will be available at this event. Recipient of a 2018 Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a 2013 Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, she is Professor of English at Rutgers University, Newark.
Neil Astley is the founder and editor of Bloodaxe Books and is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
