Crime in the North East Festival

A festival about murder, mayhem and mystery

Date/Time: Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd February

Venue: Armstrong Building, Newcastle University

This is a packed programme of readings, discussions, workshops and book signings with bestselling authors and real-life crime experts.

Friday’s opening night features Val McDermid in criminal conversation with festival curator Stacy Gillis. Val is an international best-seller, and the recipient of many international awards, including the CWA Gold Dagger. A regular broadcaster with BBC Radio, Val is a Celebrity Mastermind champion, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Society of Literature. Join us for some sparkling excitement about death and desire!

On Saturday the line-up includes such treats as: international best-selling detective novelist Lindsey Davis on historical detective fiction, urban fantasy detective writer Ben Aaronovitch, the maestra of Shetland and Vera, Ann Cleeves, Roman expert Clare Bainbridge, crime-reporter-turned-novelist David Mark, and the incomparable Mari Hannah, plus forensic experts, workshops, and a crime quiz with prizes!

World expert on detective fiction Stacy Gillis has been interested in crime since the age of ten, when she picked up Agatha Christie’s Sleeping Murder and wondered how murder could be sleepy.

Please note booking closes the day before an NCLA event (or course).  Please email Melanie Birch to see if there are any places available at Melanie.Birch@ncl.ac.uk 0191 208 7619.
